The Globe at a Glance
Three coats of the eye — the outer fibrous layer (cornea and sclera), the middle vascular uvea (iris, ciliary body, choroid), and the inner neural retina.
Refractive pathway — light passes through tear film → cornea (≈43 D, two-thirds of the eye's power) → aqueous → pupil → crystalline lens (≈17–20 D, variable with accommodation) → vitreous → retina.
The retina — rods dominate the periphery (night and motion vision); cones concentrate at the fovea (detail and color). The optic nerve head has no photoreceptors — the physiologic blind spot.
Beyond anatomy — this domain also covers systemic disease and the eye (diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease), recognizing ocular emergencies (chemical burns, angle-closure attack, arterial occlusion), and basic clinical medical knowledge.
