Equipment Maintenance and Repair
Slit lamp, lensometer, keratometer — operation, calibration, and care.
The Assistant's Instruments
Slit lamp biomicroscope — the anterior-segment workhorse. Know the illumination arms, magnification changer, and how to focus and center for the physician.
Lensometer — reads sphere, cylinder, axis, prism, and add from spectacles. Verify calibration reads plano with no lens in place.
Keratometer — measures anterior corneal curvature (K readings) for contact lens fitting and IOL calculations; check against calibration balls.
Daily care — dust covers on, chin rests wiped between patients, bulbs and batteries stocked, calibration checks logged. A mis-calibrated instrument quietly corrupts every measurement taken with it.
